How do we look after nervous patients?

• An open and honest dialogue with you– We encourage you to chat with us about what your fears of the dentist are, so we can do our utmost to address them. Our dentists are kind and experienced professionals who genuinely want to help you move forward and develop confidence.
• Never, (ever) any judgment – No matter how long it’s been since you last visited the dentist, or if you’ve not been looking after your teeth in the way you might have liked to, there will never be any judgment from us.
• Everything at your pace – ‘Rush’ isn’t a word in our vocabulary here at Agincourt. We will never rush you, especially if you’re feeling nervous. If you feel you can’t let the dentist examine you during your first appointment, that’s completely understandable (it’s not uncommon for it to take 2-3 appointments before nervous patients feel enough trust has been built to let the dentist examine them).
• Helping you overcome past trauma – In the majority of cases, fear of the dentist can be traced back to a bad experience with the dentist in the past. We completely understand that it can take time to create new and safe associations with the dentist. Our dentists will help you overcome past trauma by speaking with you about what you’ve experienced. Often, we find that explaining what is involved as part of a particular examination or treatment in detail with patients can help alleviate anxiety.

We can also agree on a safe word with you so that you’re in control if you feel you need a break at any time.
