Our dental bridges are supported by lightweight but durable materials, used as a foundation for high-grade porcelain and ceramic crowns.

They remain one of the most cost-effective solutions for tooth loss.

Dental bridges – what you need to know

Why does a dental bridge become necessary?

Dental bridges are a solution for replacing gaps in your teeth. They require the support of healthy teeth either side of the gap, which are fitted with crowns. These crowns provide support for a false tooth, which sits in the gap, providing chewing function, and aesthetic function.

Your dentist may suggest opting for a dental bridge for tooth replacement if you:

  • Have a tooth that is beyond repair, and which needs to be extracted.
  • Your current dental work is failing you and needs replacing.
  • You are struggling to chew and talk as a result of gaps in your teeth.
  • You would like to enhance your teeth.
  • You would like to lower your risk of dental problems pertaining to missing teeth.
  • You would like to stop other teeth from drifting into the gaps in your teeth.

What to expect

Preparation

Your dentist will take digital dental scans of your mouth to obtain measurements. These are used by the dental technician to create the bridgework and crowns that will form your bridge.

Tooth Preparation

The teeth on either side of the gap (called abutment teeth) will be shaped to support the bridge. This involves removing a small portion of enamel so the crowns can fit securely.

Impressions

Your dentist will take detailed impressions (digital or traditional) of your teeth. These are sent to a dental lab where your custom bridge will be made.

Fitting the Permanent Bridge

Once your bridge is ready (usually 1–2 weeks later), your dentist can fit you with your new bridge. They will thoroughly check that your teeth bite well together, and make any minor adjustments.

Cementing the Bridge

The bridge can then be cemented into place permanently, becoming a fixed mode of tooth replacement that allows you to chew and bite without hassle.

FAQs

How long will my bridge last for?

The materials we use are renowned for their durability, and with no compromise on aesthetics. Whilst there are a number of factors that determine the lifespan of a dental bridge, the average lifespan is around 10 years. However, it is possible for a bridge to last as many as 15+ years, with diligent care and a healthy lifestyle.
